Vagus Nerve Stimulator (VNS) Implantation Surgery

Vagus Nerve Simulator implantation has emerged as an effective treatment method for seizures and was FDA approved in 1997. Dr. Markus Gapany took special training to perform this operation in 2000. Since then, he has been performing this surgical procedure with excellent surgical outcomes, and is teaching this operation in national meetings and courses. In 2005, VNS implantation was FDA approved for treatment of chronic drug-resistant depression.

Paparella Ear Head & Neck Institute's Markus Gapany, MD, FACS is a board certified head and neck surgeon specializing in VNS implantation. He completed his training in otolaryngology (ENT surgery) at University of Iowa in 1991, and his head and neck surgery specialty training at University of Cincinnati in 1992. Dr. Gapany has a vast experience in a variety of head and neck operations, including VNS implantation surgery.
